I’ve always wanted to go solar and I was the first one in my neighborhood to do so.
After 10 years the system still works great. All the panels are south-facing at the same angle with minimal shading issues.
Since, going solar I really don’t think about the electric bill anymore. My system produces so much electricity during the day I don’t worry about my impact on the grid anymore. During this past summer heat wave, I was exporting to the grid during the day as opposed to consuming from the grid. My neighbors were probably receiving my excess production. Before going solar I often worried about my impact on the grid. I would try to run things at night.
While the system doesn’t produce all the electricity I need, it produces a considerable amount when compared to my annual electric need. The shade from the panels probably keeps my attic slightly cooler as well.
